6.0 magnitude earthquake jolts parts of country
A 6.0 magnitude earthquake — with its epicentre being the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region — jolted parts of the country on Sunday morning, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

In a statement, the department said that the earthquake occurred at 10:50am and struck at a depth of 223km.

Tremors were felt in several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

In a statement, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial disaster management authority said that tremors had been felt in various parts of the province. It added that the authority’s control room had not yet received reports of any damage.

In March, at least two people were killed while six injured as a 6.8 magnitude earthquake had jolted parts of the country.

The US Geological Survey said the quake rocked Afghanistan and parts of India as well, including the capital New Delhi, adding that the quake epicentre was 40 kilometres south-southeast of the Afghan town of Jurm.

Three soldiers martyred in terrorist attack on checkpost in Balochistan’s Zarghoon

As many as three soldiers embraced martyrdom and one terrorist was killed in an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in Zarghun, the area of Balochistan on Saturday. According to the military’s media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an operation was launched in the area against suspected terrorists who attacked a security post. “Troops on the post retaliated readily to the fire raid thereby, pushing back the terrorists,” stated the military’s media wing. In the ensuing exchange of fire, three soldiers were martyred while one terrorist was also killed. The military identified the martyred soldiers as Sepoy Zaheer Ahmed, Sepoy Mudassir Shaheed and Lance Naik Abdul Qadeer. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has said that the legal process of trial against planners, instigators, abettors and perpetrators involved in the May 9 mayhem has commenced under Pakistan Army Act and Official Secret Act as per existing and established legal procedures derived from the Constitution.
