Punjab to launch AI-driven Intelligence Fusion & Threat Assessment Centre

The Punjab government has announced the establishment of the province’s first Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre
The Punjab government has announced the establishment of the province’s first Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (PIFTAC) at a projected cost of over Rs13 billion, introducing a state-of-the-art model for counterintelligence and digital threat monitoring.

The Centre will rely on open-source intelligence systems to monitor social media and other digital platforms for suspicious activities.

According to reports, an advanced digital profiling system will allow authorities to identify suspected individuals and criminal elements in real time.

Additionally, the Centre will be equipped with a video analytics system capable of detecting unusual faces and behaviors.

A modern Chief Minister’s Command and Control Centre will enable officials to make rapid decisions during emergencies.

The project also includes data centers and high-performance computing units to secure intelligence records, while mobile command vans and UAV drones will enhance field surveillance and operational capabilities.

This initiative, part of the Phase-I rollout costing more than Rs13 billion, aims to strengthen Punjab’s ability to combat terrorism, organized crime, and digital threats using advanced intelligence technologies.

At the federal level, a similar model already exists in the form of the National Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (NIFTAC), established under the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).

NIFTAC, inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in May 2025, serves as the central coordination hub for Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts.

It integrates over 50 federal and provincial departments and agencies into a unified national security network.

In line with this model, Punjab’s PIFTAC will act as the provincial arm of NIFTAC, ensuring federal-provincial integration.
